Jimmy Asher Foundation at the Storm Peace Concert 2017

It was great catching up with our friends from the Jimmy Asher Foundation during the 2017 Storm Peace Concert at Wandsworth Town Hall. Joseph and Tafari say a few words about the work of the foundation and if you'd like to see one of their events we filmed previously, please head over to: http://southwestlondon.tv/celebrating-with-the-jimmy-asher-foundation/ The Jimmy Asher Foundation (JAF) is an organisation founded in honour of the late Denzil “Jimmy Asher” Maye, a staunch advocate for youth and community cohesion. The mission of JAF reflects the personal values and lifelong aspirations of Jimmy Asher, namely to offer a “helping hand for young people”. They offer support to youth from diverse backgrounds who wish to make positive life choices and develop into responsible young adults, further impacting on the wider community. http://www.jimmyasherfoundation.org @JAF_GLOBAL

Nine Elms youngsters bring monsters to life

Pia Jackson visits the Nine Elms regeneration area to see first hand how Wandsworth Council is working with local primary school children to get them interested in the changes going on around them and to excite their interest in the new arts and culture hub which has started to take shape. The "Monster Soup" project, funded by the Wandsworth Council and the Battersea Power Station Foundation, uses puppet theatre to explore connections between the River Thames and local communities, culminating in a lantern puppet parade through the area’s changing landscape. www.nineelmslondon.com www.pumphousegallery.org.uk @wandbc @PumpHouseGal @puppetswithguts @BatterseaPwrStn #monstersoup

Local business spotlight – Northcote Road SW11

Second instalment of our #DiscoverLocal series, supporting independent businesses in and around London. We first launched this initiative in November 2014 ahead of Small Business Saturday on 6 December to remind you to support, inspire and promote independents businesses, because as tempting as the big crazy offers from the giants might be, the small business owners need our support throughout the year. They are constantly struggling to make ends meet whilst making really small margins, and still they manage to bring very good deals and offer true value for money We hope you enjoy these stories and please contact us if you too are a Small Business with a story to tell. Maybe your products are highly bespoke and allow you to express yourself creatively, maybe you offer a hub for other makers to showcase their products, maybe you simply want to show the world everything that is on offer in your community. We’d love to tell your story.
