360 degree filming by SWL.TV https://southwestlondon.tv/360-degree-filming-by-swl-tv/ https://southwestlondon.tv/360-degree-filming-by-swl-tv/#respond Wed, 02 Aug 2017 01:19:18 +0000 https://southwestlondon.tv/?p=28905 360 degree video production by SWL.TV

South West London TV is proud to be one of the first adopters world-wide of professional grade (8K) 360 degree camera technology and will be offering  local businesses, performers, and events organisers and venues the ability to share 360 videos on Facebook and YouTube in ways previously unheard of.  If you’re not already familiar with 360 degree video, we’ve included some examples below to give you an idea of what’s possible.  You can watch these examples using the YouTube app on your phone and move the phone around to change the view, or watch using Virtual Reality goggles, or on a regular computer screen by clicking on the video and dragging it left/right/up/down to change the view:

Our beautiful new 8K 360 degree camera

Most professional grade cameras including ours use six or more integrated lenses to record a scene simultaneously from all different directions, which means that after a little digital wizardry (“stitching”), viewers can freely move the virtual camera around when watching the footage after the event.  This puts viewers right in the center of the action and gives them an amazing immersive experience as if they were actually there in the thick of things!

360 degree photography has been around for some years – for example Google Street View but despite marketeers describing these offerings as 360 degree video, they’re so much “videos” as simple photos cleverly stuck together, with no sound and no movement in the images themselves.  True 360 degree video captures action and sound, and you can edit it after the event to tell a story rather than simply “scanning” a static scene.

Examples of 360 video footage

We’re finding 360 degree video can be particularly effective in the following situations.

Dance – artists are already reimagining the “face on” choreography of traditional stage performances.

Music – putting the audience right in the middle of the performers

Drama – cutting between multiple 360 camera allows directors to tell the story from unique perspectives

Tours – Indoor or outdoor, let your audience look where they like, while you guide them.

Property – Let your viewers have a good look around, add voiceover or live property presenter.

Entertainment – pop videos, street performances, flash mobs, live gigs, parades, public events.

Sport – getting up close and personal!

Nature – ever wandered what it’s like to be surrounded by elephants? Or sharks?

Business – retail, trade shows, workshops, events and round-table discussions.

Check back soon for more amazing new videos by SWL.TV clients.

What’s so “Ground Breaking” about SWL.TV’s service?

EYE VR: The world’s highest quality 360 camera rig?

360 degree video has been around on YouTube (and more recently Facebook) for months already, but the image quality is usually pretty grainy and fuzzy. There are plenty of cheap and cheerful consumer 360 cameras on sale, but the big thing holding this technology back for serious use until now has been the resolution of cameras themselves.  That’s why our 8K cameras are so exciting!  You’ve probably seen the superb quality of 4K TVs for regular video – twice as tall and twice as wide as High Definition, which in turn is twice as tall and wide as Standard Definition (“DVD quality”).  Imagine four x 4K televisions arranged next to each other – that’s what our 8K camera films.  Resolution is critically important for 360 degree footage because the image resolution is shared between the  “up”, “straight ahead”, and “down” views, so simplistically speaking, what the viewer sees is typically only one third of the recorded picture (for that direction).  Our cameras can also record at 120 frames per second which provides eye-popping slow motion possibilities for dance, sport, and action filming, and a live streaming capability when you just can’t wait to share with the world.  Our camera offers higher quality 360 filming than anything else on the market unless you happen to own something like the $60,000 Nokia Ozo or a multi-camera behemoth like the one pictured here.

Another key benefit to our customers is there’s no longer such a need for days and days of editing after filming.  To all intents and purposes the viewer now becomes the editor, directing the (virtual) camera as they see fit after the event.  Our editors can still add a little gloss in terms of cutting between different locations and times, adding graphics and text information, colour and sound enhancement etc, but the net results is a much more cost-effective package for events and performances etc.

What does it cost?

The technology is still in its infancy so it’s difficult to predict exactly how much work will be involved producing high end 360 content, but our research so far suggests we’ll be able to offer an entry level service from £200+vat and a more structured and complex “corporate” service for £500+vat.  As well as hiring out the camera and a skilled operator, we’ll also be offering storage for the huge amount of 8K footage generated, a “stitching” service to rapidly mesh together footage from all six cameras using our 40x Xeon CPU editing workstation, and advanced editing skills including 360 degree stitching, green-screen chromakeying, audio dubbing, colour enhancement, and titles/graphics all in glorious 360 degree format.

If you have an event, product, service or idea you think would benefit from 360 degree filming, please email editor@southwestlondon.tv or call us on 020 81330081 to chat about ideas and options.

London’s Craft Beer Scene https://southwestlondon.tv/londons-craft-beer-scene/ https://southwestlondon.tv/londons-craft-beer-scene/#respond Fri, 23 Sep 2016 13:07:36 +0000 https://southwestlondon.tv/?p=3366 beer
There’s no shortage of pubs in London. From traditional boozers to speakeasy-style bars, the city offers a heady selection of watering holes in which to sink a pint. And the capital is currently going through something of a craft beer revolution with a focus on microbrews and local ales. Quench your thirst with this guide to London’s craft beer scene and plot a self-guided pub crawl to taste the best brews in town. Cheers to that!

London’s Craft Beer Breweries

Weird Beard Brew Co

Founded in 2013 by two hop-loving home brewers, this west London brewery was founded in 2013 and produces experimental, hand-crafted beer. The core line up includes the popular Five O’Clock Shadow, an American-style 7% ABV IPA and seasonal beers are produced throughout the year including Black Christmas, a festive stout brewed with cranberries.

Beavertown Brewery

Inspired by Brooklyn brews, Beavertown Brewery owner Logan Plant (the son of Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant) first started brewing using a 50 liter rice pan at home before opening a small brew house in Duke’s Brew and Que restaurant in 2011.

Caution – Naked Wines Is Not For Everyone. Find Out If Its For You.

The brewery now operates from an industrial estate in Tottenham and sells cans and bottles emblazoned with arguably the coolest designs in town.

Canopy Beer Co

Under a railway arch in south London’s Herne Hill, Canopy Beer produces small-batch beers named after local areas including Brockwell IPA and Milkwood Amber. The Tap Room serves brews made on site and there’s an outdoor seating area where occasional street food pop-ups sell snacks.

Redchurch Brewery

Named after Redchurch Street in Shoreditch, this east London brewery produces bottles with names that celebrate the local area like Hoxton Stout, Brick Lane Lager and Bethnal Pale Ale. Head to the mezzanine bar above the brewing equipment to taste your way through the menu. Food stalls often set up shop out front and there are regular live bands and DJs.

Take a Craft Beer Brewery Tour in London

Camden Town Brewery

See how top beers including Camden Hells Lager and Camden Pale Ale are brewed by joining a tour of the Camden Town Brewery in Kentish Town. Either drop in on a Saturday between 1 and 2 p.m. for a 30-minute informal tour or book a tour in advance on Thursday or Saturday for a more in-depth look at brewing techniques and the chance to taste several beers straight from the tank.

London Fields Brewery

Between Thursday and Sunday, London Fields Brewery open their doors to offer an insight into how their award-winning beers are produced. The tours take around an hour and include a tutored beer tasting in the Tap Room. Upgrade to a Craft Brewery Experience for a hands-on brewing demonstration and a three-course beer and food pairing meal.

Crate Brewery

Hop-loving hipsters flock to this waterfront bar and pizzeria near the Olympic Stadium to sup beers brewed on site. See how they’re made with a tour of the Brewshed to learn about the brewing process, sample hops and malt and enjoy a number of tastings.

Meantime Brewing Company

One of the pioneers of London’s craft beer scene, the Meantime Brewing Company was set up in 2000 and the brewery’s core beers, including London Lager and London Pale Ale are stocked in hundreds of pubs across the capital. The brewery tours at their sizable site in Greenwich start or finish with a tutored tasting and there’s a shop and a bar on site.

Where to Drink Craft Beer in London

The Understudy at the National Theatre, South Bank

With a stellar location right on the South Bank, this stylish bar is part of the National Theatre and is a top spot for pre- or post-theatre refreshments. Sip a pint from a London brewery (the bar stocks brews from Five Points Brewing Co and Redchurch Brewery among others) and soak up views of the River Thames. There are plenty of sliders on offer to pair with drinks.

Mother Kelly’s, Hackney

In a railway arch in Bethnal Green, this New York-inspired tap room and shop stocks an impressive array of beers brewed in the capital and across the globe. The menu of beers available on tap changes regularly and there are 19 taps serving all sorts of different styles, including limited edition brews. Sharing plates are available and street food vendors congregate outside every weekend.

Earl of Essex, Islington

This handsome Georgian pub in Islington is a popular spot for serious beer drinkers. The keg and cask line up changes regularly but the menu features around 18 different beers at any one time, many of which are brewed in London. Food is served all day and all dishes include beer matching suggestions.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Given its Covent Garden location and impressive beer selection (including 10 hand pumps), the crowds at the Harp often spill out into the street. If you can make it to the bar, order a classic cask ale or one of the rotating guest brews and pair with a hearty bar snack.
