Roll Up, Roll Up and Volunteer at Wimbledon Guild Village Fair 2017 https://southwestlondon.tv/roll-up-roll-up-and-volunteer-at-wimbledon-guild-village-fair-2017/ https://southwestlondon.tv/roll-up-roll-up-and-volunteer-at-wimbledon-guild-village-fair-2017/#respond Thu, 18 May 2017 13:47:25 +0000 https://southwestlondon.tv/?p=20550

Wimbledon Guild Volunteer Co-ordinator Nick Linney

Wimbledon Guild Village Fair needs you! The organisers behind the annual event, social welfare charity Wimbledon Guild, is appealing for volunteers to make the 2017 Fair the best yet.

The charity is aiming to build a team of 100 volunteers and supporters to help out at the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair on Saturday June 17.

Anyone who wants to be involved can sign up to this fantastic community event, which attracts more than 35,000 people to Wimbledon Common every summer, via the wimbledonguildvillagefair.org.uk/volunteers website.

Volunteer co-ordinator at Wimbledon Guild, Nick Linney, explained that there are a host of roles available on the day, ranging from helping at the Fun Dog Show, managing the Sips and Sounds music marquee or selling raffle tickets.

He said: “This is such a lovely community event which promotes involvement and fun for everyone and working as part of our team for the day is a really memorable experience.

“We have lots of interesting and varied roles throughout the day. And it doesn’t matter if you can only spare a few hours to take part, we have roles that could take just a short time.

“This is a fantastic volunteer programme for everyone from students to families, colleagues and individuals. It’s a chance to meet and make new friends and of course, we’ll make sure you’re treated to snacks and drinks while you’re with us.

“You can volunteer on your own or bring a friend or a colleague. And afterwards you’ll have our badge of honour, a Wimbledon Guild Village Fair 2017 t-shirt and our wholehearted thanks.”

Nick added that while there are no skills requirements there are a few specialised roles based around the main arena that would need previous event experience.

The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair, that has the Wimbledon Foundation – the charity of The All England Lawn Tennis Club – as a major partner, is a landmark occasion in the local social calendar and last year’s star attraction, The Knights of Middle England, will return to create a thrilling equestrian jousting spectacle.

The Fair is a firm favourite with families, foodies and music fans and offers a fun-filled free-to-enter day for all ages while raising funds in aid of the social welfare charity which helps local people of Merton lead a better life by tackling poverty, supporting ageing and encouraging mental wellbeing.

Wimbledon Guild Village Fair 2016 volunteer Evelina Belevich, 19, from Raynes Park, has already committed to volunteering for this summer’s event.

The University of Exeter psychology student said: “I have already signed up for this year’s Fair! Last year was fantastic fun and it felt so worthwhile to be part of the team on the day. Knowing that every penny goes to such an amazing local cause is what makes all the difference to me. And at the end of such a fun day, it was so rewarding to have played a part in it. For me making such a great impact locally is so important.

“The volunteer team last year had such great fun. Working together and coming together as a team made the day really very enjoyable. There are so many roles to do on the day and everyone is made to feel so welcome and part of the team. I would recommend volunteering at the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair to anyone.”

To register for the Fair please complete our Volunteer Form here https://wimbledonguildvillagefair.org.uk/volunteers

5 top London West End musicals for families https://southwestlondon.tv/2588-2/ https://southwestlondon.tv/2588-2/#respond Tue, 06 Sep 2016 03:40:13 +0000 https://southwestlondon.tv/?p=2588 Reproduced with kind permission from Mummy in the City.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory London West End Today Tix

5 top London West End musicals for families

1. Matilda
Based on the Roald Dahl children’s book of the same name, Matilda is a family favourite about the incredible five-year-old school girl. The musical, which hit West End in 2011, has received more Olivier awards in one year than any other musical and is playing at the Cambridge Theatre

2. Aladdin
Disney’s new Broadway musical Aladdin hit West End in May, and since we’re regularly singing along to A Whole New World at home I would love to take Big Girl to see it. The musical based on the Disney animation about Aladdin and Princess Jasmine is playing at Prince Edward Theatre.

3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Another Roald Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory premiered on West End in 2013 and continues to wow audiences with the dark story about Charlie and his grandfather visiting Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory after winning a golden ticket. We were invited to the musical last year with Today Tix (see picture above) and Big Girl still talks about the experience and regularly asks us to read the souvenir programme.

4. Lion King
The award-winning Disney’s Lion King based on the Disney animation is in it’s 17th year at Lyceum Theatre, and Big Girl asks to go every time we pass the theatre. I think it could be a good musical for introducing children to West End, as many may already be familiar with the story and beautiful music. I remember being impressed by the spectacular animal costumes too, which I think make this show fun for all ages.

5. Wicked
Wicked is based on the Gregory Maguire novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, which re-imagined the Land of Oz and created a new version of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic  ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. The musical’s 10th birthday celebration performance on West End is coming up in September, and the hit musical, which is playing at Apollo Victoria, celebrated its tenth year on Broadway three years ago.

Scooby Doo Live Musical MysteriesAnd for August 2016 – Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries
For four days only, Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries is coming to West End, playing at London Palladium from 18 August. In the musical version of the cartoon, the charming dog and his gang help solve an epic mystery, and there are post-show VIP meet and greet experiences available for every show. Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries will play three times every show day in London this August
