Vauxhall-based Axis Foundation has, in its eight-year history of giving, donated £1m to over 110 charities, causes and individuals who make an impact in their local communities: many are based in south west London including Vauxhall City Farm (a very near neighbour), Royal Trinity Hospice in Clapham and the Pimlico Foundation.
The funding has helped hospices and specialist nurses to care for those with life limiting illnesses, contributed to scientific breakthroughs that extend life, provided mobility to those without, reduced social exclusion and given away specially adapted minibuses – to give just a few examples.
The Axis Foundation (registered charity) was born from Axis Europe PLC’s strong sense of corporate social responsibility which sees the business supporting causes within the communities where it works. Axis Europe PLC is based in Vauxhall and works throughout London and the UK.
The foundation’s total donations hit the million pound milestone in a £5,000 donation for London charity For Jimmy.
Foundation patron and international sporting personality Alan Curbishley presented the cheque to For Jimmy. It was received by Barry and Margaret Mizen who founded For Jimmy when their son Jimmy Mizen was murdered. Since that day in May 2008, they have worked tirelessly with young people across the country sharing Jimmy’s story, creating a safer society for young people and delivering programmes in schools.
Margaret Mizen, mother of Jimmy Mizen says: “We are so grateful to the Axis Foundation for their support and generosity. I promised my son the day he died I would never stop working on his behalf, and I would never forget him. Of course we never have. The support of the Axis Foundation means For Jimmy can continue to work to build safer communities for everyone. We are so pleased that their one millionth pound was donated to For Jimmy.”
