Autumn is a great time to volunteer
Link UP recruits volunteers and works with charities throughout the borough of Wandsworth bringing together individuals who are willing to share their professional skills with local charities, community groups and social enterprises that need these skills to make a real difference in the Wandsworth community. All of the volunteers are professionals and whilst some are in work others are retired, semi-retired or not currently working.
The charitable organisations’ projects are structured, have clear start and end dates, are flexible to fit in with busy lives and are designed to make a difference. Link UP ensures that projects are a good fit for both the organisations and the volunteers.
To date, Link UP has had over 35 volunteer placements within 15 organisations on projects including among others IT, marketing, human resources, research, writing, strategy development, and web design.

There are currently 15+ skills-based volunteer opportunities available and more coming in regularly. Skills currently needed include web design, accounting/finance, communications, project management, administration, legal, web design, and social media. Examples of opportunities include:

Autumn is a great time to volunteer
Link UP recruits volunteers and works with charities throughout the borough of Wandsworth bringing together individuals who are willing to share their professional skills with local charities, community groups and social enterprises that need these skills to make a real difference in the Wandsworth community. All of the volunteers are professionals and whilst some are in work others are retired, semi-retired or not currently working.
The charitable organisations’ projects are structured, have clear start and end dates, are flexible to fit in with busy lives and are designed to make a difference. Link UP ensures that projects are a good fit for both the organisations and the volunteers.
To date, Link UP has had over 35 volunteer placements within 15 organisations on projects including among others IT, marketing, human resources, research, writing, strategy development, and web design.
Link UP Opportunities
There are currently 15+ skills-based volunteer opportunities available and more coming in regularly. Skills currently needed include web design, accounting/finance, communications, project management, administration, legal, web design, and social media. Examples of opportunities include:
- WordPress web design for a local residents association;
- Develop a furniture donation scheme for refugees in Wandsworth;
- Serve as a secretary on a Board of Trustees for a children’s organisation working on autism;
- Develop a social media strategy for a dynamic organisation focused on dyslexia.

There have been many successful ‘Link Ups’ to date. For example volunteers have:
- Developed branding guidelines;
- Led a strategy session;
- Provided tech support to a homework club for children from refugee backgrounds;

The Problem: SenTalk has ambitions to fill a real gap in southwest London providing a wide range of activities and information for families of children on the autism spectrum. The organisation, which works with social communication difficulties within Autism Spectrum Disorders and Attention Deficit Disorders, needed a website that was able to effectively communicate their work and serve as a resource in southwest London.
The Solution: Mark, who runs his own web design and digital marketing company – Little Shock, agreed, as a Link Up volunteer, to develop a new WordPress site for the charity. Annaliese from SenTalk worked closely with Mark to ensure that the site had the right feel and he guided her in the types of functionality the site could have to ensure that it could serve the purpose she envisioned and was able to reach a wide audience.
The Result: SenTalk’s new site reflects the growth and professionalism of the organisation and serves as an important communication tool and resource for it. Mark has provided Annaliese with training on how to use it and she is able to update it regularly.
